I don't think as of now it would be able to be a crime. I think it would get overturned at the supreme court if tried in today's world. But tomorrow's world is a different story. It's no secret that America has been moving closer to a democracy. And when mob rule finally decides things hate speech will be a crime. Why? Because people think it's fine and dandy to legislate based solely off of morals. "Well that's bad and nobody should do it so let's make it illegal." Social engineering is what I say to that. And social engineering never works. If anything it only breeds resentment and more hate.

I've been thinking about the difference between attacking someone's body and their mind and the difference between the two and why attacking the body should be legislated and not the mind. This is because attacking the body has no gray area whatsoever. If you get cut you bleed, if you get shot you bleed, if you get hit by a car you bleed. For the mind this couldn't be farther from the truth. The mind is filled with gray area. You don't know if something you say will or won't offend someone. Also mental damage cannot be calculated so how can you set up a series of rules for something with no value?

Another point brings me back to what I said earlier. Not everyone has the same morals as you do. In a world where supposedly everyone's opinions are equal how can you force your opinion on someone else? Wouldn't that make the opinions unequal? And if you do believe that opinions are unequal then what are you using to measure this? How rational something is? The problem with that is rational is a subjective term.

"But James, what about if a parent mentally abuses their kid by saying they don't matter or things like that?" Cases involving children in my opinion should run off of a different set of rules. This is because they have not yet had the proper time to develop their mind. So if some dad yells at his kid every day and the kid kills himself I wouldn't argue with the father getting some punishment since the father is responsible for his kid's well being. However for adults they have had the time to develop their mind. And being an adult means that you're responsible for maintaining your mind.

I guess free speech just isn't popular anymore.

Top 5 reasons why America is going to the shitter

1) No respect for money. When the government wastes billions of dollars the entire country should be outraged but it seems these days people are too forgiving in such matters.

2) Party loyalty. The idea that you should support something because you're a democrat or republican or whatever is completely absurd.

3) Unintelligent majority. When someone's gut reaction to any problem is to raise taxes, you know they have no understanding of economics.

4) Checks and balances disintegrating. When presidents are allowed to declare war and the judiciary branch just sits on it's ass something's wrong.

5) The idea that we're citizens of the world. Governments are less efficient the bigger they get. Not to mention how can America afford to give billions in overseas aid when our deficit is as big as it is.

:/

Ugh.
WoW vs City of Heroes/Villains

I'll get straight to the point.

Things that WoW does better than CoH
1) Minimal load times. I don't remember there being any major load times for anything.
2) Exploration was fun. I dunno exactly what it is about CoH that doesn't make me want to explore (maybe it's all the load times), but if there's one thing I know for sure it's that I enjoyed exploring in WoW more.
3) Easier to understand. CoH took some time for me to wrap my head around. Understanding WoW took little to no time.
4) My computer can handle WoW easily. It doesn't like CoH as much.

Things that CoH does better than WoW
1) More depth with skills. Each class has different skill sets to choose from, allowing for multiple combinations for a single class.
2) Don't have to pay money for expansions.
3) I found that in WoW once you did what missions there were in a town (which wasn't that many) that was little reason to ever go back to that town. CoH seems to not be the same in that regard, at least not yet.
4) I'm sorry but being able to make a base for your guild/super group/whatever you want to call it is totally cool.

Which do I like better? I'd say overall CoH, but the frequent loading is kind of annoying.

PAX '08

Just got back from PAX. Had a great time. Thought I'd note some of the things that I did/saw before I forgot, then afterwards I'll talk about my overall experience/impressions.

1. Lots of free swag. Even more than last year. That might have been because I was more aggressive this year with trying to get free stuff than last year. I even got Serra Angel print from my aggressive strategy. Although afterwards I kept asking for free MTG cards. Which, I probaby did cross a line there as this one Wizards guy pointed out ("Dude!?!"). I later realized that they were passing out older cards. If I knew that I wouldn't have asked for any because I already have a lot of older cards. The only time where I went "wow I probably shouldn't have gone that far" was during that MTG event. At least I didn't steal anything that actually cost money. My morals may be questionable at times, but stealing is bad in my book.

2. Got to see a lot of people from Bungie. Quite a few I didn't reconize but I saw Brian Jarrard, Luke Smith, Shiska, Marty O'Donnell, and Jerome. I thought I might have seen Lars Bakkan, but looking back I think I was mistaken.

3. Got to see some developers from Dead Space, City of Heroes. Saw Tom Fulp and Dan Paladin from Newgrounds.

4. Saw some 1up people. Or "ex-1up" as they put it. Not sure what's all happened.

5. Got to see Spore in action. Game looks awesome.

6. Saw the PAX Family Fued. It was hilarious. One of the things was "what people do when their electricity goes out." This one guy said "I like to masturbate." Everyone started laughing. Then the answer "pleasure yourself" came up and people laughed again.

7. I got a hug from this one chick. And this other chick that was giving people stickers took the sticker off before giving it to me and put it on my chest.

Ok now for my overall experiance. PAX is a fun place to just look at the games and get free stuff and hang out with people. If I went alone I don't think I would have enjoyed myself nearly as much. Part of the fun was hanging out with friends for 4 days. Videos, demos, all sorts of good stuff. Game free-plays are cool too.

But what's bad about PAX? Well quite simply, it's too popular. There are lines for about everything. The new games in particular (like Left 4 Dead and Gears of War 2) had huge lines. I wanted to partake in the Bungie events but whenever one was going on there would be a huge crowd gathered around. Even the restaurants had lines. Heck you had to wait like 15 minutes or more just to get food. They really either need to close registration at a certain point or get more room.

Will I want to go next time? Sure. Hopefully by then I'll have money to actually buy some things.

Sounding more republican

I think I've sort of.. refined my views a little bit. Let me start off by making myself sound like a republican even though I'm not one.

1) Anti-gay marriage
2) Anti-abortion
3) Anti-big government
4) Pro-guns

Wee. ^o^

Anyways though the anti-gay marriage thing isn't entirely accurate. As some may know I've been pro-gay marriage in the past. So why the change? Well the truth is I changed my view on marriage. I was pro-gay marriage because I thought of marriage as a governmental function. Instead now I view it as a religious function. However I am still not content with how marriage works now. I think there should be absolutely ZERO governmental involvement into marriage. It should be decided by the churches as it's a religious function. Which means I'm not really anti-gay marriage.. it's just the system I would like to see in place wouldn't allow for it.

I used to argue that anti-gay marriage folks didn't respect people's religions because not everyone is christian. Now I argue that pro-gay marriage folks are anti-religion because they want to change a religion they don't believe in to suit their needs.

Meh

I used to say "I hope Obama wins cause even though I don't like him he's better than McCain." But now I really don't care anymore. In fact now I kind of hope McCain wins just so the liberals get all pissed off. Anyways though after the election when asked if I voted for Obama or McCain I'll proudly say "neither".
Makeshiftery

I wanted to document my makeshift pirate costume. I never documented my ninja one so I don't remember all I used for it. I remember I used a black sock as a face mask, black socks as gloves, and this pipe thing as a staff. But that's about it. So anyways on to the piracy.

Head
Pirate flag used as hat
Pokemon eyepatch made from a cardboard cutout of a pokeball and headphone wire

Torso
White dress shirt as an undershirt
Pirate of the Burning Sea t-shirt with sleeves rolled up
Some chinese/japanese/whatever character (not sure what language) necklace
Whale tail necklace
Guitar strap held together with headphone wire
Belt (over my PotBS shirt)

Arms
Air Force ring
Necklace with a bullet on it used as a rosary

Legs
Brownish pants
Red shirt used as a sash (under my PotBS shirt)
Black shoes with the cord from a cd-to-car adapter as shoelace
Black socks used to make the shoes look like boots

Good times.

Screw you, gamerpics.

I used to hate on some people that would sell t-shirts for $20. I would say "why are they charging people to advertise for them?" What I didn't know, at least in the case with Rooster Teeth anyways, is they use the money generated to run their servers. Alright so then that's ok.

Gamerpics are same concept right? Pay money to advertise. But the difference here is that people already pay $50/year to help with server costs. Also there are other items to generate money such as arcade games, XBox original games, or downloadable content. With all that they still need to charge 80 points for a few pictures? Why? At the least they should be cheaper, like 40 points or something.

I've only bought 1 picture pack and that was because it was VG Cats and I wanted to support VG Cats. Same for Halo downloadable content. 800 points for 3 maps is kind of a hefty price. But it doesn't seem as much when you look at it as supporting Bungie and their future endeavors. Of course that's not the only reason why I got the VG Cats pictures and Halo 3 maps.. I also happen to really like VG Cats and Halo. If I didn't, I wouldn't be willing to spend the money to support them.

Firefox 3 owns hardcore

Firefox 3 is awesome.
